PEACE PROTEST 10.5.11

“Taxi drivers are 20 times more likely to be murdered on the job than other workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Last year, 27 of the 42 cabdrivers killed on the job were murder victims. The rest died in traffic crashes, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That is up from 2009, when 23 drivers were killed in violent acts.” – The Union Tribune

We will be standing in solidarity in a Peaceful Protest to Call Attention to Violence in the Taxi Industry after the tragic robbery and death of Mir Sadat Sahou, 68, whose cab was named after his 26-year-old daughter, Savitar.

We believe there needs to be more done to protect drivers while they are working their shifts. Currently San Diego taxi’s are not equipped with safety glass or any other mechanism that reasonably protects them from being violated. There have been reports of taxi drivers being spit on, punched and in this tragic case, killed.  We stand together to let the powers that be know this needs to end and we need to do whatever we can to prevent drivers from becoming victims when they are just trying to make a living. Please come out and support! In Solidarity, The United Taxi Workers of San Diego.
